One of many stressful consequences to losing a job, or remaining unemployed, is losing medical insurance. The Affordable Care Act, for all its flaws, has offered some coverage for people who aren’t covered by an employer’s medical insurance plan.
If the ACA is repealed, or significantly changed, employee turnover will be impacted. Without the ACA, large numbers of baby-boomers nearing retirement will stay employed to keep medical insurance. Other employees will delay self-employment or a job change to keep insurance. This is known as “job-lock.” Retirement and job mobility create new job openings. If that stalls, job hunters will face more challenges in finding new employment. This NY Times article explains.
